For this project, I designed a 24-page zine exploring two distinct concepts: a timeless theme of finding one's purpose in life, and a timely focus on my cat, Rafuba.
For my initial critique, I presented four spreads that illustrated the zine's artistic direction. Below is a visual representation of the completed booklet, which features a chapter-based structure with a consistent layout throughout.
The zine aims to convey the notion of life's inherent lack of control, centered around the theme "Life is by Accident." It explores how a series of random events profoundly impacted one’s life, focusing on the moment we first discovered the stranded kitten.
The zine features two cats: Rafuba, represented as a dark red cat, and a stray cat, depicted in light red. Each chapter alternates between the experiences of these two characters.
Each chapter includes a typographic spread that builds upon and echoes the previous spreads. The typography is mirrored to illustrate how events lead to different outcomes. The right-hand page represents the timeline in which Rafuba was found, while the left-hand page depicts the timeline where he remained lost.
While this zine is personal to me, I hope that others can relate to the its concepts, specifically lack of control, life changes, and randomness.
